Key Facts

Canoeing and Kayaking can be arranged through the Pay and Play cabin at the Water Sports Centre, where you can take out a boat with friends most days of the year.

All courses are run by fully qualified instructors

Following successful completion of a course each candidate will recieve a national governing body certificate.

Personal tuition is available by arrangement

The National Water Sports Centre has long been known for facilitating the training of some of the Worlds top Canoe and Kayak athletes; including numerous Olympic Medalists and World Champions.

Set in 270 acres of beautiful Nottinghamshire Country Parkland the centre has a 2000m Regatta Lake, 700m White Water Course and numerous lakes and lagoons to explore; making it one of the most unique and comprehensive sites in the UK.

Whether you're a complete novice wanting to see what its all about, have aspirations of hitting the rapids, want Internationally recognised qualifications allowing you to work around the world or want to train to the highest level on world class facilities the National Water Sports Centre is the venue for you.

For those just wanting a few hours on the water with friends we also have the Pay and Play Cabin which is open 7 days a week throughout the season (excluding event days) and does exactly what it says on the tin.

With such a wide range of activities and courses available its never been easier to get involved. Everyone has to start somewhere, make sure you start with the best.

Canoe Taster Session

  • Work towards the BCU 1 and 2 star tests using kayaks and open canoes
  • On completion of the taster course there are opportunities to attend intermediate courses and advanced tuition courses

Introduction to White Water Kayaking (1 Day)

  • The next step from 2* to full blown white water kayak pro
  • Progress down our 700m White Water Course with one of our highly trained white water professionals
  • Put breaking in and out, low-brace and high-brace and many other 2* techniques into practice

BCU 3 Star Kayak Training (2 Days)

  • The 3* training will take you through Kayak handling, forward and reverse paddling, turning, moving sideways, supporting, deep water rescues and Eskimo rescues
  • Prepare for white water with this 3* training course

BCU 3 Star Kayak Assessment (3 Hours)

  • White Water here we come! The 3* assessment it for those that can evidence experience on grade II rivers and have completed the 3* training
  • For those who pass the course there is an additional fee of £5 for the certificate

BCU 1 Star Canoe/Kayak (1 Day)

  • Ideal for the complete novice
  • If you have never even picked up a paddle before this is the course for you
  • Our highly trained instructors and top of the range equipment will ensure that your first experience in the real world of paddle sport is a great one
  • For those who pass the course there is an additional fee of £5 for the certificate

  • The next step from 2*
  • Gain even greater knowledge of Kayaking
  • Learn from our experience instructors about how the boat and water interact, how to get the desired movement in your boat and much more

Junior (under 14) BCU 1 star Paddlepower Passport (1 Day)

  • Ideal for the complete novice
  • If you have never even picked up a paddle before this is the course for you
  • Our highly trained instructors and top of the range equipment will ensure that your first experience in the real world of paddle sport is a great one
  • Specifically designed for juniors
  • This is a one day course
  • For those who pass the course there is an additional fee of £5 for the certificate
